Deflection compensating rolls in press sections and calenders provide for an even paper thickness and a consistently high paper surface quality. Roll and mating roll are pressed against each other under high pressure as the roll shell and the bearing outer ring rotate. Deflections of the mating roll are compensated for by matching changes of the form of the roll shell. Spherical roller bearings provide the required axial guidance and compensation of misalignments. All bearings are connected to a central oil lubrication system.
